My recently departed Father-in-Law used to have many funny little sayings and one of them was 'Not my circus, not my monkeys.' When a client used this expression in a reading last week, I smiled, thinking of him and the lesson. What does it mean? In a nut shell, stay out of it. Stop depleting your energy on other's dramas and craziness that is not yours. This can happen as we become emotionally involved in the dramas playing out around us and in our local, national and worldwide communities. So how do we disengage when it is so easy to be distracted and even consumed by the circus that is constantly unfolding around us? We are being fed a constant diet of fear, helplessness and hopelessness. Like a slow poison, it circulates in our energy field planting the seeds of a 'What If Garden" of fear in our subconscious. We water this garden every time we give attention to these thoughts. Where attention goes, energy flows. A self perpetuating bubble of fear and illusion is created and with all the noise bombarding us we become distracted, stuck and paralyzed, unable to hear the clear, true voice within. It is this voice, the voice of the Higher Self, that when quiet and still whispers the divine guidance of our soul contracts, life lessons and the highest potential of our divine life purpose in this lifetime. What are the sources that keep us on this steady diet of fear and drama? Television, radio, internet, social media and the people around us. So how do we disconnect from it all? Anyone who knows me well knows that I go 'Off Grid" at least once a week. For one to several days, I don't turn on the computer and abstain from most all electronics for as long as it takes to recharge my battery. As an Empath, I find the news will make me physically ill. It begins with nausea and turns into what feels like the beginnings of a panic attack rising up from the solar plexus. Turn the channel or turn it off. Find something nourishing to fill yourself with. If it's important enough, you will hear about it one way or another and you are definitely not missing out. Facebook is another timeless vortex of a rabbit hole that it is easy to fall into and not as easy to find your way out of. The bombardment of news, strong options, negativity, drama and people being offended and by other people's posts can be overwhelming. Set time limits and be careful as to what pages you visit, who you engage with and what can be seen on your incoming news feeds. Pick up a book on a spiritual topic instead. Lastly, make better choices about who you spend your time with and the conversations you participate in. Two things I avoid like the plague are drama and negativity because they are toxic. If you cannot find a away to turn the conversation around, change the subject or leave. I have two motto's that help me deal with this. 1. DO NOT ENGAGE. Don't allow yourself to be sucked into these conversations in the first place. When approached, don't take the bait. 2. I AM NEUTRAL LIKE SWITZERLAND. These conversations need fuel added to the fire. If you abstain from being the fuel, the fire smolders out. Without the charge, the instigator of the conversation will become bored and walk away. Shielding with a layer of Pink Light, which is unconditional love, can help to repel some of the negative Nellie's and make you less attractive the the drama queens as well. Pulling the plug on much of the outside noise allows a stillness and peace to blossom inside. It is here you begin to find clarity and the voice within. May peace be with you.
