We have all been touched by cancer – through a journey with a loved one, or through our own personal struggle with the disease. But today, there is good news.
The Cape Wellness Collaborative (CWC) provides free-of-charge integrative and complementary therapies to people facing cancer in our community.
Using integrative therapies alongside traditional medicine is not a new concept. In the late ‘90s, the National Institute of Health established the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), and has since received millions of dollars in funding to study the effects of acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, reiki and energy work, yoga and more. In cancer treatment especially, integrative therapies have been shown to go a long way in helping to heal the whole person – and most major cancer treatment facilities now include them as a part of their program.
On a local level, there is neither a shortage of practitioners nor therapies, but there can be a challenge in making the connection. The goal of the CWC is to connect people in our community facing cancer with free-of-charge integrative therapies. The CWC will also serve as a general wellness resource for the public, helping to create awareness through events and information made available on their website.
